A next milestone reached on the road to deliver tools and spare parts to offshore wind turbines: the drop test on a demonstrator platform. The flight was performed with an Aeroscout Scout B1-100 UAV Helicopter, operated under the new SORA based flight permission for EU countries.
Thank to all ADD2WIND project members for the good work!

The final scientific report is out! Presenting the biological results of a project started in 2019 together with Brown University, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, USA. Aeroscout provided the UAV carrier Scout B1-100 and collected LIDAR data over the tropical forest of La Selva, Costa Rica. Many thanks to the team of Prof. James R. Kellner who made this possible and congratulation for the publication on nature.com.
Paper Title: Impact of a tropical forest blowdown on aboveground carbon balance
Aeroscout is proud of receiving a flight permission for the Scout B-330 UAV Helicopter in compliance with SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment). The EASA published the SORA as a standard for drone operations with aircrafts over 25kg takeoff mass. It is valid in the EU and will be adopted by FOCA (Federal office of civil aviation, Switzerland) on 1 January 2023.

Its already more than 10 years since the market entry of the Scout B1-100 UAV Helicopter. Aeroscout does not promote it to customers but still uses it for service activities. All over the years, an impressive amount of video footage was collected and compressed to a two minute video. The most important activities were related to laser scanning of biological interesting areas, power line scanning, magnetic scanning, radar survey and radiation detection. The Scout B1-100 has been flown all over the globe and over tropical forest up to the tundra in Siberia.
